FAQs

What is the Parkland Public Schools Fund (Parkland Fund)?
The Parkland Fund is a non-profit volunteer organization whose purpose is to provide additional financial support to enhance public education for Parkland's public schools.

What is the Parkland Fund's relationship with the Broward Education Foundation?
The Broward Education Foundation (BEF), founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization that encourages community support and resources to enrich education throughout the school district.  With the support of the BEF and the Broward County School District.  The Parkland fund is the first city level fund of it's kind in Broward County.  By partnering with BEF, the Parkland Fund can operate under the available non-profit 501 (c) (3) status.  All monies raised in Parkland under the Parkland Public Schools Fund are directed explicitly by the Parkland Fund according to the mission and vision statement and are used in Parkland's public schools.  BEF is, in effect, the bank.

Why have a fund for the public schools of Parkland?
Florida is 50th out of 50 states for funding for public education.  In 2011 alone, the state government cut public education funding by an average of 8%.  Programs and enrichment that were taken for granted are no longer available.  The Parkland Fund's goal is to provide enrichment and enhancement to Parkland's public schools beyond the scope of what is being spent by the County.

How is money raised?
The Parkland Fund seeks tax deductible contributions from investor donations, grants, corporate matching, parents and anyone concerned about enriching the educational experience in Parkland's public schools.  In addition, the Parkland Fund sponsors a city wide Annual Gala Event.  Individual schools may identify additional fundraising opportunities if desired.

How will the money be disbursed?
The Board of Directors for the Parkland Fund identifies goals and priorities based on input from the administration, faculty, staff, parents, students and concerned citizens.  The organizational structure of the Parkland Fund is specifically designed to assure that every school is represented by faculty and parents.  A plan is then created to research and fund each targeted goal.  The Parkland Fund Board votes to financially support crucial needs of the public schools of Parkland.  Investor Reports are given throughout the school year and at the spring annual meeting.

Are my donations tax deductible?
Your donations are tax deductible.  More than that, your donations are used to help the children in Parkland's public schools receive a world class education.  Your unrestricted donation may be of great benefit as we are able to direct it to the area of greatest current need.  But donors are always welcome to designate their gift for the school, program or project of their choice.

Does all the money I donate go to Parkland Schools?
Yes, your money goes directly into Parkland's Public Schools.  The Parkland Fund Board of Directors determines how donations are allocated and donors are able to earmark their donation to specific schools or programs in accordance with the Parkland Fund's mission and vision.  The only portion that is withheld is a 4% administrative fee provided to the Broward Education Foundation as the fiduciary agent and pays for all tax filings and accounting costs related to financially administering the Parkland Fund.  The Parkland Fund does not have any overhead costs or salaries to pay and all work done by the Board of Directors is on a voluntary basis.
